The city of Nuremberg is known to most of us. However, the Chillventa trade fair which takes place there every two years is less well known, even though the trade fair is in fact the most important meeting place for the international cooling, air conditioning, ventilation and heat pump industry.  This year around 1000 exhibitors and more than 35,000 specialist visitors came to Nuremberg from around the world. The trade fair is oriented to target groups which MANN+HUMMEL has been focusing on for a number of years.  These are the non-automotive segments where we can intensively exploit our know-how and expertise and develop new products to achieve further growth.

This year MANN+HUMMEL exhibited at Chillventa for the first time. At our own stand in hall 4 we presented a selection of our product range. In addition, we used the three days in the area of central Franconia to meet customers, suppliers and interested parties. And every time I find it very interesting that despite the hustle and bustle of the trade fair there is no better place to make contact and have intensive discussions, particularly as one can see the subject matter in question.

See things which are usually hidden

For example, let’s take the area of ventilation and air conditioning systems for buildings, where often huge complete systems consisting of ventilation and air conditioning equipment, blowers, pipes and ducts in existing building complexes are not really visible. At the Chillventa, leading suppliers took the opportunity to set up such constructions without the walls and cladding. This means when talking about filter solutions we are able to discuss the shape and function directly with the respective components at hand and this is naturally much more practical than a discussion in the office using a technical drawing.

It is also much better to explain the OurAir solutions from MANN+HUMMEL using real objects. Just as a reminder: we market innovative and sustainable solutions under the OurAir product brand which keep the air in buildings cleaner and safer. Our product range includes air quality measurement devices, air cleaning equipment, filters for heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology and also digital applications to control the air quality in real time. The ability here to demonstrate where a sensor is located, how the sensor communicates with the filter, what it measures and the effect that has on the function of the ventilation system, enables the (almost) perfect conditions for a discussion.

Considerable interest in the range of filters

In addition to our OurAir products, visitors were naturally also interested in our range of filters. One new product was the Pro ATEX product series for air conditioning and ventilation systems in explosion risk zones. The filters in this series are suitable for high air flow rates and temperatures up to 120°C, for ISO 16890 and the EN 1822 filter classes, whereby they also comply with the latest requirements regarding fire protection classification according to EN 13501 E d0. Visitors were also very interested in our new filter series FreciousComfort.

Already known in the automotive segment, these filters now also combine particle filtration with anti-allergenic and anti-microbial functions for air conditioning and ventilation technology used in buildings. As well as fine dust, the filters therefore also block free allergens and inhibit the growth of fungi and bacteria. As an option it is also possible to equip the filter with activated carbon to remove unpleasant odors and harmful gases. The advantages for people are less allergic reactions and an increased feeling of well-being in rooms.

We were particularly pleased about the high level of interest in ScandMist, our range of industrial air cleaners. This modular filter system helps to eliminate oil fumes, oil mist and emulsion mist to enable a clean and safer shop floor environment. Here ScandMist removes all vapors, emissions and other harmful by-products of metalworking processes directly at the source using a three-stage filtration process. In contrast to existing solutions on the market which work with electrostatic or centrifugal separators, the mechanical oil mist separators from MANN+HUMMEL are easy to service and separate particles smaller than PM1 which are especially dangerous to human health. These fine particles can cause dermatitis, asthma at the workplace, and other lung diseases.

My conclusion is that the Chillventa was entirely positive. At the trade fair you can meet many manufacturers and visitors to the trade fair are almost without exception specialist visitors. The trade fair is very international and there are many interesting discussions to participate in, not least because MANN++HUMMEL with its Air Solutions business unit is very well positioned. Therefore I am sure that in 2020 we will once again enjoy the hospitality of Nuremberg.
