I hear a lot about our products being used in the automotive sector but there is an equally important market in the marine economy. Towards the end of last year, MANN+HUMMEL Korea exhibited our filtration products for engines, generators and air conditioning systems at KORMARINE 2015. A global B2B exhibition for the marine, shipbuilding, offshore, and oil & gas industries at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, this trade fair is an important date in the diary for us as well as the Korean and international marine and shipbuilding industries. We were joined by over 1,000 companies from 45 countries and the exhibition welcomed around 40,000 visitors.
MANN+HUMMEL Korea have been attending this exhibition for over a half decade to promote our products and to demonstrate our brand. Recent streamlining and cost-cutting measures undertaken by the shipbuilding industry mean Korean shipbuilders are highly price-competitive. Korea has retained its top position for two years in this field and Korean shipbuilders have recently won contracts to build high value-added vessels such as LNG carriers and super-large container carriers. Some of these vessels can be built in just five months.
Much planning went into the presentation stand and our participation at the trade fair, not least because the port city of Busan, where the exhibition takes place, is around a five hours’ drive away from our office in Seoul (or about an hour’s flight). KORMARINE lasts for four days so we had a crew of colleagues to man the stand. It was an excellent way for me and my colleagues to meet contacts and clients. Although the days were long and the stand was very busy, it was a pleasure to demonstrate our new and existing products face to face with potential clients and customers.
The MANN+HUMMEL stand was this time co-branded with VOKES AIR. This is the first year we featured their intake filter systems and the products were received very positively by the audience. Of special interest was the VOKES AIR intake module that combines long-service reliability with high separation efficiency, even in the harshest of off-shore and marine environments.
My colleagues and I also introduced new products from the MANN+HUMMEL range including lubricated oil filters which can be used in marine generators and The PreLine 1201, a water fuel separator which was developed to confirm to the international SOLAS standards. Germanischer LIoyd has awarded the product a “Type Approval” which confirms its suitability for use in marine vessels.
Furthermore, visits to the stand were boosted by a main article in the KORMARINE newsletter highlighting MANN+HUMMEL’s participation as a major exhibitor.
Overall, the trade fair was a great success and left a good impression with our Korean and international customers. I thank all those who participated at KORMARINE both physically and spiritually. The marine and shipbuilding industries are major players in Korea and it is important we develop long-term relationships with these important clients.
