Development collaboration, innovation, global support and the one-stop shop concept are the central topics to be covered by filtration specialist MANN+HUMMEL at ComVac 2015, the world’s leading trade fair for compressed air and vacuum technology which is to be held in Hanover between 13 and 17 April 2015. Dr Thomas Netsch, Head of the Industry & Energy business segment, outlines the added value available to manufacturers and customers in the compressor industry.
ComVac really is THE meeting place for the industry. We are delighted to have the opportunity to speak to our customers in Hanover about our latest developments and their requirements in relation to compressed air and vacuum technology. This year, our slogan for the trade fair is ‘Working together towards achieving our targets!’, which contains a number of messages. Firstly, we are working extremely hard to expand our global structures in order to enable us to provide the best possible on-site logistics, development and production support to our customers, who operate on an international level and are based all around the world, via a network of more than 60 locations.
Furthermore, MANN+HUMMEL offers a comprehensive range of coordinated standard products for compressors, which can be adapted to customer-specific solutions. However, there is also the option of customised solutions to meet individual customers’ requirements. When developing and supplying new products, MANN+HUMMEL refers back to its large number of innovations and extensive experience and know-how.
When it comes to developing products, our main focus is the specific benefits for the customer, taking into account the compressor as a whole rather than restricting ourselves to the issue of filtration alone. With our developments, there is a clear trend for energy efficiency, with the aim of reducing operating costs, which constitute the most significant pool of costs over the lifetime of a compressor station. With this in mind, we are working towards optimising the entire filtration chain.
This involves looking at the relationship between separation efficiency and pressure loss in order to increase the power density of our filters. This has the added benefit of opening up unprecedented degrees of freedom in terms of design. An increased power density can be used in the downsizing of filter elements, which makes it possible to construct the pressure tank (related components) with smaller dimensions, and in turn reduce the production costs for the compressor. Further development objectives include robustness in application and stable performance during the service life of our filters.
Another major aspect is maintenance periods, during which the compressors are idle and not productive. At the development stage, we therefore aim to further improve the ease of servicing. In practice, this means ensuring that it is quicker and easier to perform maintenance work on the compressors, but there is also an opportunity to reduce a compressor’s operating costs by extending the maintenance intervals.
At MANN+HUMMEL, we believe that our work within the compressor sector is an all-encompassing task. That’s why we provide spare parts over the entire lifetime of a compressor and manufacture service kits so our customers can perform maintenance work on their compressors. We see ourselves as a one-stop shop that covers everything related to compressors for the benefit of our customers around the world. These are the topics we will be addressing in Hanover. Why not come and pay us a visit at the trade fair – you will find us at Stand C25 in Hall 26.
